Texas, Auto Insurance Quotes and Summer Storms

When you think of the kind of weather that's going to send your auto insurance quotes flying up, your average summer rainstorm probably does not even make the list. But as drivers in Texas are finding out the hard way, those harmless storms can do more damage to your auto insurance quotes than you might think.

The question is, are they the only ones? Or is this rate increase going to slowly but surely creep its way across the country until it affects every driver in the United States?

In an article published by ABC News and the Associated Press Allstate, the second largest insurer in Texas, said that the number of storm related insurance claims was on the rise. For a state that already holds the record at a whopping 23% of catastrophe claims (that have nothing to do with snow) that'd definitely bad news. Remember, insurance companies do not stay in business by paying out more than they bring in. While no one's talking about a raise in auto insurance quotes yet, there's a good chance it's on their minds.

Areas at a high risk for tornadoes, flooding and other natural disasters are already key targets for increased insurance rates-auto and home. And boat. And RV. Just about anything that can be damaged by a storm is going to cost more to insure if there's a good chance disaster's going to strike while your insurer is holding the policy. You may not realize it, but you're already paying for that risk each and every time you make a monthly payment.

The question is, what are you going to do about it?

While you certainly can not stop Mother Nature from unleashing her fury any and every time she happens to feel like it, there are some steps you can take to help keep the damage to a minimum. Try not to drive when the weather's bad. If you do have to go out, do not be ashamed to drive 5-10 miles below the speed limit, and pull over any time your visibility gets too bad. It's far better to be a half hour late for work than to risk not getting there at all because you can not see where you're going.

Do you have a garage? If you do, it might be time to start using it to hold something other than your lawn mower! When you start looking around for free auto insurance quotes you're going to be asked where you keep your car parked. A garage can protect it from the elements and reduce the risk of having to file a comprehensive insurance claim.

That's good news for both of you.
