Celebrating Valentine's Day With Your Children

Many people think of Valentine's Day as a holiday for just adult and teenagers. The thing is though, Valentine's Day is also marketed to children and they are learning about it in school. Because of this, your children may want to celebrate the holiday with you. You certainly do not want to leave them out of your plans so you are going to have to make arrangements to make sure that you are getting time with your children and that you are getting a little time alone with the spouse. This could take some creative planning but it can be done.

The first thing you need to realize is that your night will basically be split. The first half is all of the day and night leading up to bedtime for the children. After that is time for the adults. While you may have wanted to go out for dinner, taking the children to a fancy restaurant may be out of the question. After all, many people are out trying to have their romantic dinners. If there is a buffet or something like that open, that may be a great place to take the kids, otherwise, you are probably eating at home.

Bake some cookies together, make a cake, create Valentine's Cards together and maybe even watch a movie or two. Do whatever you can to make sure that your children are having fun with the holiday so that they can grow up to appreciate the holiday for what it is. Once the children are fast asleep, it is your time for a little adult time. This is when the romantic movies can break out.

If you can have someone come sit with your kids for an hour you can even take a late night stroll around the neighborhood. Even if it is a little chilly out, the walk is probably not something you get to do often and it can be very romantic. Once you are back home, you might want to jump in the hot tub or draw a warm bath to share with each other. Give each other a massage and make sure that you have the lights off with candles going or at least have the lights dimmed.

When you make an effort to plan your Valentine's Day out, you will find that it certainly is easy to share the day with your children. It can almost be like having two separate holidays in one day. The first part is fun and full of laughter and children running around the house. The second part is romantic and of a slower pace. Whatever you do, make sure that you are making memories to last.
