How Social Networking Can Help Your Business Increase Visibility and Productivity

[ad_1]

Social Networking via the internet gained popularity in the mid-2000s and continues to be a mainstream for connecting with people. In the beginning, as more and more people begin to discover it, social networking was an avenue for renewing old friendships, establishing new ones, finding romantic connections and staying abreast of local events and gatherings. But business owners quickly realized that these social networks were another way to maximize their exposure to a global audience, announce new services and publications, promote articles and blogs and post event reminders and updates.

The most well-known social networking sites are:

• LinkedIn

• Facebook

• Twitter

Social networking is a low cost, low risk way to collaborate with other companies and organizations while marketing your business to the masses. Establish your profile on the top 3 sites and be consistent with the image you want to present. Use your company logo and tag line if you have one. You will be able to list the URL to your website as well as let viewers know anything you want them to know about your company, services and product offerings.

LinkedIn is a business oriented network that allows you to join groups, post events, list jobs and business opportunities. With Facebook, you can build a friends database and join networks organized by schools, workplaces and local communities. You can also share photos and post events and links. Twitter, which is referred to as a micro-blogging site, is another way to build your presence on the internet. "Tweets" are short messages sent or received between you and your followers such as, "Spring Sales Begins Today" or "Give your website a Facelift: Contact us today to find out how".

There are also free social networking sites for blogging and creating discussion forums. Establishing blogs or forums gives you the opportunity to share information with clients and prospects and also allows you to have links to any of your other social networking profiles. Discussion forums are also a means of collecting feedback from potential clients. You can use technology such as "Smart You Tube" plug in to insert You Tube videos into your blog to add interest and supporting information to your discussion. And please ... do not just create your blog and forget it. You should update your blog regularly and ensure to reply to viewer comments in order to keep the information exchange flowing and potentially generate additional comments.

Business owners or potential entrepreneurs should also use resources such as the Small Business Development Center in your area. Many of these centers offer free or low-cost workshops on Social Media and Internet Marketing, blogging and search engine optimization. It is also a great place to network with other business owners and people within the communities where you live and work.
