How to Develop an Introductory Training Program for Industrial Production Employees

[ad_1]

Few things in an organization are as important as a good learning and development system. Personnel selection is often too emphasized to the exclusion of introductory training and good learning programs development.

This is especially true when speaking of production aiming both quality and quantity. Good training can be crucial in the case when a totally inexperienced worker is required to get used to work with unfamiliar equipment.

Developing a study plan for the workers in production can be embarrassing to someone who does not know much about the technology and processes. Here's why creating the study plan is a team task.

The first step in creating this plan is clarifying the learning objectives. When the worker is a new one they are different than these when he already has some experience and needs to improve.

Naturally the plan starts with learning the safety instructions and equipment precautions before actually beginning to work. The first thing a worker in a production facility should learn is the things he is not allowed to do for his own safety.

Speaking about production means there are materials involved. The employee in production is not required to know all about the materials. Only a short introduction on their production related characteristics should be enough.

Concerning equipment the employee must begin with equipment startup and emergency stop. This is necessary in case he needs to interrupt suddenly the working cycle to prevent damage of the machine, himself or other employees.

The extent of mastery of equipment direction depends on the employee's intended role. In some cases he will be required to set up the machines and fine tune them for production, while in others he will not.

Having in mind what is the role of the employee the study plan must include instructions on equipment setting up for work and maintenance for an uninterrupted and rhythmic working cycle.

Having decided upon the objectives one must begin with the actual plan. The good plan includes not more than the employee needs to know and not less for him to be safe at work.

Making the plan is a team process involving the training specialist, the trainee and the instructor or instructors. The plan must be agreed upon by all of them in order to be accepted and carried out.

Implementing the plan requires following a strictly defined time schedule with clear terms for each point, and date for plan completion and evaluation.

The evaluation of the plan implementation should be a separate and individually planned process which is also planned well in advance.

While making the plan the professional should keep in mind that people study at a different pace, each person requires a different amount of time to develop the necessary skills and knowledge and different people react differently to structured learning. All these things must be considered in advance to the actual planning and be incorporated in the final program. In order to achieve this it is required to carry out a learning styles and preferences evaluation with each individual.

As you can see developing a plan for introductory training of production employees is not so hard. Still it has to meet some requirements in order to be efficient and practical.
