Sourav Sarangi looks back on his career as a documentary filmmaker and editor talking about discovering the exciting world of World Cinema aesthetics and their realist appeal. Personally, he never tried to differentiate between fiction, nonfiction, documentary or telefilm, etc. It was the communication that has mattered. In fact the very idea of a documentary in Indian or at least in Kolkata context was a highly narrowed down affair, following a set template and a given set of protocols. It wasn’t easy to break out of the mould.
