The FDA recommends that you consume tulsi tea in moderation if you are pregnant or nursing. However, this recommendation is controversial because women in Indian households commonly use tulsi tea when pregnant or nursing and believe that it can be beneficial for your health and pregnancy. Seek the advice of your health care provider if you wish to drink tulsi tea in large amounts when pregnant or nursing. Additionally, tulsi tea is not recommended for children under the age of two. You should avoid giving the drink to children, but if you must you should seek the counsel of your child's pediatrician before beginning any herbal tea regimen.

The side effects of tulsi tea are not that many or dangerous. Overall, tulsi tea is a safe and effective beverage to drink to give both pleasure, health benefits, and in some cases worship. Unless you are having a medical operation, likely to be allergic, or are pregnant or nursing, you should be fine to drink your tulsi tea with peace of mind if you buy it from a trusted source.
