He's an American rock musician, multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, director and producer.

He's best known as the former drummer for the grunge band Nirvana and the founder and frontman of the rock band Foo Fighters.

In 2012, he was estimated to be the third wealthiest drummer in the world, with a fortune of $225 million.

He's Dave Grohl and here are his Top 10 Rules for Success.

1. You have to be great
At the age of twelve, Grohl began learning to play guitar.

2. Figure it out
While in high school, he played in several local bands, including a stint as guitarist in a band called Freak Baby.

3. Chase your dreams
At the age of seventeen, he auditioned with local DC favorites Scream to fill the vacancy left by the departure of drummer Kent Stax.

4. Don't lose your personality
He joined Nirvana in the 1990.

5. Experiment
Following Cobain's death in April 1994, he retreated, unsure of where to go and what to do with himself.

6. Do your own thing
He was also rumored as a possible replacement for Pearl Jam drummer Dave Abbruzzese and even performed with the band for a song or two.

7. Find balance
He was the drummer and co-founder of the rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures.

8. Just do it
He additionally wrote all the music and performed all the instruments for his short-lived side projects Late! and Probot.

9. Cherish your voice
He has performed as a session drummer for a variety of musicians, including Paul McCartney, David Bowie, The Prodigy, Slash, and Iggy Pop.

10. Love what you do
He's considered to be one of the most influential rock musicians of the past 20 years.
