This has been updated from the YouTube layout change at the end of July 2013.
When you create a YouTube Channel, you are given a long string for your channel name. To create a much cooler and easier to remember channel name, you have to manually go into your YouTube account and create it. You're not automatically given a channel name when you create your account.
Here we go through the steps to change your YouTube Channel Name easily to get the name that you want on your account.
1:14 To start, go to the top right and click on your name at the top. Click on YouTube Settings.
1:21 Here you will see your Account Information, and on there you'll see Advanced. Click that link.
1:35 On the next page you'll see the long URL of your current Channel Name. Beside that is a link to "Create Custom URL"
1:47 On the next page you'll have a box where you can pick your shortened Channel Name. Type in the URL/Name you want into the box. If it comes up with suggestions, then it's already taken. When it's blank, then you have selected a name that is available for you.
2:30 When you're happy with your name, click on Create Channel URL. On the next page you'll be notified that you have a Custom Channel URL.
2:48 If you go to the top right again and click on My Channel, you'll see that your URL is there and you have changed your YouTube Channel Name.
So there you go, that's how to change a YouTube Channel Name. It is a very easy process once you follow this video. You'll change your Channel Username which then becomes your YouTube Channel URL. You'll have your own URL for your channel, which will be easier to remember than the long string that was there before.
