I'm Hosting a TV Show!

[ad_1]

I’m really excited to finally get to share this new show with you - Secrets of the Underground. It’s airing Tuesday nights on Science Channel starting on Feb 14th (10E/P).

Here is the link to see small pieces of the show via Science Channel:

Remember how I said I was really busy. Well, it’s because I was traveling around the US, using technology to help answer some interesting science mysteries. In particular, the ones that are hard to see - both underground and underwater.

I think there is a misconception these days that we know most of what there is to know about the world around us. That simply isn’t so. The way I see it we haven’t but scratched the surface. You need people to use the tech we’re using and start scanning the ground. You need to start looking both underground and underwater.

I’m a marine biologist by training and my early research was used to study the behavior of very timid fish that live in burrows. I started by wiring a bunch of spy cams around their burrows to help figure out what they were doing. I continued that theme, essentially using technology to help us figure out what animals were doing.

This show looks at some interesting questions like are there actually tunnels under Alcatraz. We look at a lake that disappeared almost overnight in Virginia. And, in this episode on Valentines night we’re looking for Al Capone’s secret escape routes.

One of my favorites was from a small cave in San Antonio texas (that I talk about here in this video), called Friesenhahn cave. Inside the walls are literally covered in the remains of ice age creatures. I had in my hand the bones of a mammoth - and I’m not talking fossils, these were light - they were the actual bones.

There definitely were some scary moments in the show too. Maybe I can get into that later. For anyone that’s claustrophobic, I did a fair amount of spelunking, crawling through very tight crawl spaces. Also, I had a mishap at 150’ on a wreck in lake Michigan. For the rest, you’ll have to see the show. I hope you guys like it. If you happened to see me on your local TV network. Let me know in the comments!
